Building 6 Utilities Upgrade
Upsize nine air handling units (AHUs) in the Accelerated Light Source Building for the planned upgrade of the Synchrotron, which produces one of the world’s brightest sources of ultraviolet and soft x-ray light.
The work consisted of replacing nine existing AHUs with larger capacity units atop 11’ tall structural steel supports with integral 1-ton concrete radiation shield blocks; offsetting utility piping to remove interferences with the new AHUs, shield blocks and ducting, upgrading the electrical power supply, upsizing the chilled water supply and return lines, and installing new VFDs and DDC controls.
